As was typical of Coach Bill Gardner era at Spring Hill, the Badgers faced a very tough schedule. After a 2-0 start with wins over Christian Brothers and Louisiana, the Badgers traveled north to square off against Xavier-Ohio and defending Mid-American Champion, Marshall. The trip saw the Badgers lose two games but also saw the previous year's Senior Bowl MVP Ed Tibbetts go down with an injury. With an ailing Tibbett’s, the Badgers went into the Senior Bowl Tournament as heavy underdogs. Despite their woes The Hill knocked off Furman 67-56 behind Whitey Barnes' 16 points and Bob Coyle pulling in a game-high 14 rebounds. Next up was nationally-ranked #17 Morehead State, the defending Ohio Valley Champions and NCAA Tournament team who beat Florida State in their opening game. Again, Barnes and Coyle helped the Badgers to defend their Senior Bowl Title with an 83-79 win over the team from Kentucky. Barnes was named Tournament MVP for his outstanding performance. The 1956-57 Badgers, despite the injuries, finished with a winning record that included two big road wins during a Florida swing defeating the University of Miami and the Tamps Spartans in the sunshine state.

Team members: Whitey Barnes, Gerry Rubin, Ed Tibbetts, Gene McGuire, Bob Coyle, Charlie Rodriguez, Ed Breen, Joe Phelan, Al Irato, D.R. Atkinson, Tom Colbert, Jim Burke, Bob Grundig.
