The quarterback and fastest man on the team, "Speed" is famous for his broken-field running, and was the hardest man to tackle that ever carried a pigskin. O’Dowd was a key member of the 1915 SHC squad that went 6-1 in the SIAA and captained the 1916 and ’17 teams that went 4-2 in both years. Victories over Southern Miss, Samford and ULL highlighted those years. Ed was also no slouch on the diamond, were he lead the Badger baseball team most offensive categories for three seasons before being called to duty in World War I.
