Louis Faquin was the No. 1 singles player on arguably the most accomplished team in Spring Hill College history. From 1939-1942 the Badgers Men’s Tennis team ran off a record of 56-straight match victories. Only World War II stopped the Badgers. Faquin, a tennis phenom from Memphis, Tenn., helped lead the Badgers to three-straight Dixie Conference titles and victories against some of the biggest programs in the country. During the 1939 season the Badgers beat the likes of Alabama, Vanderbilt, Memphis, Ole Miss and capped the season with an exhibition win over then B1G Champs, University of Chicago. The 1940 squad highlight was a road trip that started with a win at Alabama, then at Vanderbilt, Kentucky, University of Cincinnati and finishing in Illinois with wins over Illinois Wesleyan and B1G Champion, Northwestern. As the No. 1 singles player, Faquin and the Badgers faced some of the toughest schedules in the country for four years. Before the 1942 season was suspended because of the World War II, the Badgers beat Clemson and Georgia Tech to close out the shortened season. Faquin was considered one of the best collegiate and amateur players in the country.
