Babington was two-sport standout on The Hill, as he excelled in both baseball and football. On the diamond, he was known as one the best backstops in college baseball. He was timely hitter who broke up a many perfect games and his strong arm threw out a large majority of runners attempting to steal. His knack of covering bunts and his accurate judgment of foul balls was always greeted with a roar of applause. He known for his ability to handle the pitchers and call a masterful game. On the gridiron, he played mostly on the line, where he was known as an outstanding blocker that opened holes for the backs as well as a sure tackler on defense. His steady leadership helped the 1920 Badgers to a 6-2 record.
