Dr. Thomas Bick arrived as one of the tallest recruits in SHC history. As a freshman, the St. Louis native started learning the college game quickly, scoring in double figures against the likes of Louisiana, Troy, ULM and Auburn. During the era of the 1950s and 60’s the Badger schedule was loaded with some of the best Division I teams in the South. As a sophomore, Bick moved into the starting lineup and produced for the Hill by averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. That season, Tom broke SHC Hall of Fame legend Happy Mahfouz’s sophomore scoring record. “Big Bick” poured 31 points against Troy, 26 at Louisiana Monroe and had 26 points and 16 rebounds versus Christian Brothers. As a junior, Tom was named co-captain alongside fellow inductee Jimmy Murray and once again provided the Badgers with much-needed scoring and rebounding, averaging 15 points and 11 rebounds per game. Bick was named to the prestigious 1965 Catholic College All-American Team. He finished career third in all-time scoring at the Hill with 1,242 points. Tom went on to a long career in education, earning both a master’s and doctorate from St. Louis University.
