LTC John D. King, Jr. (retired) (‘76) was a standout guard whose scoring ability and leadership helped power the Badgers through one of the most competitive eras in program history. A key member of the 1974–75 Southern States Conference Championship team, King finished his career with 1,264 points and was a three-time All-Conference Honorable Mention (1972, 1973, 1975).

Averaging 16 points per game as a freshman—one of the highest marks ever by a Spring Hill newcomer—King made an early impact, highlighted by a 16-point performance that helped the Badgers upset South Alabama during the Jaguars’ homecoming.

A former prep star at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile, King earned All-State honors and, alongside high school and SHC Hall of Fame teammate Tony Bivens, broke barriers as one of the first Black student-athletes at Spring Hill College. He played both high school and college ball for legendary SHC Hall of Fame coach Frank Kerns, leaving behind a legacy defined by talent, toughness, and trailblazing impact.
