After two successive years where "Buck" HalloranĀ lettered in football, he was forced by a bad shoulder to act in the capacity of Freshmen Football Coach. Halloran was a familiar figure as second basemen for four years. He hit well over the .400 mark for the 1927 season and well above .300 during his career. His hitting was not only frequent, but was of the "Babe Ruth" variety, many times his triple or homer was the turning point in Spring Hill's favor.Ā  As a fielding second baseman, the captain has far surpassed all other infielders who have played on the college diamond during his career. In Halloran’sĀ junior season, the Badgers went 12-0 on the diamond with wins over the likes of Southern Mississippi, Birmingham Southern and Loyola (La.). His senior season, the Badgers beat Big Ten powerhouse Wisconsin and split with Notre Dame before making a long road trip up to the northeast to play Navy, Georgetown, Providence, Niagara and Holy Cross. Buck entered professional baseball when he graduated. Buck was also a member of the basketball team during his days on The Hill.
