Richard “Moon” Ducote attended Spring Hill College during his high school years where he was a three-sport star in football, basketball and baseball. Ducote went on to star at Auburn from 1915-17, where he was considered one of the best players in the first 50 years of Auburn football. Ducote was a gifted runner and kicker, while serving in the military during the First World War Ducote kicked a 41yd field goal as the Cleveland Naval Reserves upset legendary coach Pop Warner’s undefeated Pitt Panthers. Warner called Ducote, “the greatest football player I ever saw.” Moon played several summers of minor league baseball while coaching football in the off season at Spring Hill and Loyola. Ducote also served one year as the Head Basketball and Baseball Coach at LSU, he is also a member of Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
