McEvoy was a captain and halfback of one of the best SHC football teams in school history. The 1927 team was 6-1, "Babe" led the Badgers to wins over Jacksonville State, Southern Miss., Louisiana and Miami during that season.  His punting and passing were spectacular, his speed and power running through the line and dodging tackles was a thing to be marveled at. He was in Spring Hill football history one of the greatest backs that ever donned a purple and white uniform. On the diamond, he was an outstanding pitcher and outfielder. In center field, Babe was known for his ability to chase down long fly balls and had an incredibly strong arm. He was also a very good hitter with great speed on the base paths. No slouch on the mound either as with the undefeated 1927 team, he was 3-0 with complete game wins over Southern Miss., Millsaps and Birmingham Southern. He also lettered on the varsity basketball team.
