Hall of Fame
Eric Lovett ('97) established himself as one of the standout guards of his era at Spring Hill College, starring for the Badgers from 1993-97. A highly recruited local product from Vigor High School in Mobile, the 6-foot-4 point guard became a four-year starter and three-year co-captain, bringing leadership, toughness and a reputation for making big plays when his team needed them most.
Lovett finished his career with 1,475 points, 576 rebounds, 346 assists and 230 steals, establishing himself as one of the most well-rounded players in Spring Hill history. He helped lead the Badgers to the 1994 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference championship and an appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, while earning All-GCAC honors twice.
His impact went beyond the stat sheet. Lovett was known for his ability to make big-time plays, a quality that was evident from his freshman season when he battled through a late-season injury to help Spring Hill capture the conference championship. He also set the program's single-game record with seven steals against Southern University New Orleans on Jan. 15, 1994, a mark that remains in the Spring Hill record book.
After completing his career at Spring Hill, Lovett continued his commitment to his hometown and to young people. He earned his master's degree from the University of South Alabama and began a career in education, eventually becoming head basketball coach at LeFlore High School. He guided the Rattlers to a regional championship while also serving as senior sponsor and head of the math department, mentoring students, and fellow teachers.
In recognition of an outstanding playing career and a lifetime of leadership in the Mobile community, Lovett leaves a legacy that extends well beyond his 1,475 points. His four years as a starter, three seasons as a co-captain, two All-GCAC selections and contributions to a conference championship reflect the impact of a player who consistently found a way to make a difference when the moment demanded it.
