Caroline Sagrera '16 established herself as the most accomplished pitcher in Spring Hill College softball history, rewriting the Badger record book during a remarkable four-year career. A two-time NAIA First Team All-American, Sagrera dominated in the circle while also excelling in the classroom, becoming one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history.
As a freshman in 2013, Sagrera immediately made her mark on the national stage, earning NAIA First Team All-America, Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and SSAC Freshman of the Year honors. She led all levels of college softball with 482 strikeouts, finishing the season 39-11 with 18 shutouts and five no-hitters. Her 39 wins, 18 shutouts and 482 strikeouts remain Spring Hill single-season records.
Sagrera followed with another All-America season in 2014, earning SSAC West Division Pitcher of the Year honors while leading the NAIA in wins (38), innings pitched (339.0) and strikeouts (435). She added 46 complete games, 17 shutouts and five no-hitters while posting a 1.01 ERA.
In 2015, Sagrera continued her dominance, going 26-6 with a 1.39 ERA and 350 strikeouts over 212.0 innings. She recorded 30 complete games, 10 shutouts and two no-hitters while holding opponents to a .135 batting average. She was also named a First Team Capital One Academic All-American for the second consecutive season.
Sagrera closed her career in 2016 by helping lead Spring Hill through its first season in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, earning First Team All-SIAC and SIAC Starting Pitcher of the Year honors. She finished her senior season 23-8 with a 0.98 ERA, 264 strikeouts and two more no-hitters.
Her success in the circle was matched by her work in the classroom. Sagrera was a First Team Capital One Academic All-American in both 2014 and 2015 and was named to the SSAC All-Academic Team in 2014.
By the end of her career, Sagrera had compiled a 126-36 record with 1,531 strikeouts over 1,088.2 innings. She recorded 144 complete games, 57 solo shutouts, nine no-hitters and two saves while establishing numerous career, single-season and game records that remain part of the Spring Hill record book.
Sagrera's combination of consistency, durability and dominance made her one of the most accomplished athletes in Spring Hill College history and cemented her place among the greatest players to ever wear the Badger uniform.
