JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Spring Hill College women's soccer team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end Saturday, falling 3-1 to Union University in Gulf South Conference action at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex.

After a scoreless opening half, Union broke through early in the second period when Paige Blackburn scored in the 56th minute. The Badgers answered just 34 seconds later, with Laura Lillie Sparks finding the back of the net off an assist from Madison Hitzman to even the match at 1-1.

Union regained the lead in the 86th minute when Rebekah Jackson scored before Irene Arias added an insurance goal in the 89th minute to give the Bulldogs the 3-1 advantage. Jackson assisted on Arias' goal.

Sparks led the Badgers offensively with four shots and one goal, while Sofia Jimenez Garcia added two shots. Madison Hitzman recorded the assist on Spring Hill's lone goal.

Ava Bell kept the Badgers within striking distance throughout the match, making 11 saves on 14 Union shots on goal. Spring Hill finished with 11 total shots, including four on frame, while Union held a 26-11 advantage in shots. Both teams recorded three corner kicks.

The loss drops Spring Hill to 3-3-1 overall and 2-1 in GSC play. The Badgers return to action Wednesday, Sept. 23, traveling to Valdosta, Ga., to face Valdosta State University at 6 p.m. ET at Valdosta State Soccer Complex.
