JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Spring Hill College men's soccer team battled Union University throughout 90 minutes Saturday night, but a second-half goal proved to be the difference as the Badgers fell 1-0 to the Bulldogs at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex.
Neither team could break through during the opening 45 minutes, with Spring Hill taking eight shots and Union seven.
Jose Lozano Soto made three saves in the opening half to keep the match scoreless at the break.
The Badgers continued to apply pressure early in the second half, but Union broke the deadlock in the 66th minute when Michael Bailey scored off an assist from Solomon Pela.
Spring Hill continued to push for an equalizer, finishing the night with 18 shots, including nine on goal. Union managed 17 shots with six on frame, while the Badgers held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Alvaro Mestre led the Badgers with three shots and two shots on goal, while
Tommy Wortham also recorded three shots and two on frame.
Jack Ambrose,
Riley Holden,
Bastian Lucquin and
Bryce Barrere each added a shot on goal. Lozano Soto finished with five saves in the complete-game effort.
The loss drops Spring Hill to 0-4-1 overall and 0-3 in GSC play.
The Badgers return home Saturday, Sept. 26, hosting West Alabama at 3 p.m. at Library Field.
