MOBILE, Ala. — The Spring Hill College men's soccer team battled West Alabama to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Library Field, with the Badgers taking a late lead before the Tigers answered in the final five minutes.
After a scoreless opening half, Spring Hill goalkeeper Jose Lozano Soto kept the Badgers within striking distance, making three saves before halftime as West Alabama recorded eight shots.
The Badgers broke through in the 82nd minute when Jack Ambrose found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Alvaro Mestre provided the assist, giving Spring Hill a 1-0 advantage with just over eight minutes remaining.
West Alabama answered in the 85th minute, as David Nunez scored off an assist from Daniele Ciarlesi to level the match.
Neither team could find a winner in the final five minutes, sending the contest to a 1-1 draw.
Lozano Soto finished with four saves in the complete-game effort, while Ambrose recorded Spring Hill's lone shot on goal. The Tigers finished with a 12-3 advantage in total shots and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
The draw moves the Badgers to 0-4-2 overall and 0-3-1 in Gulf South Conference play.
Spring Hill returns to action Saturday, Oct. 3, traveling to Huntsville, Alabama, to face Alabama Huntsville. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
