Baseball Handed First Loss of SIAC Championship

MACON, Ga.  – The top-seeded Spring Hill College baseball team dropped its first game of the 2026 SIAC Baseball Championship 1-0 to No. 3 Edward Waters University this afternoon. The Badgers are now 38-15 on the season, while the Tigers are now 32-19.

Spring Hill kept the Tigers from reaching third for the first six innings of the game.

The Badgers were able to get runners on third twice, once in the third when Eli Benoit doubled, and Reggie Cooper walked. A wild pitch would send Benoit to third and Cooper to second, but back-to-back outs ended the scoring chance.

Spring Hill in the bottom of the sixth started things off with Jatnier Torres being hit by a pitch. He then advanced to second when Alex Roux was walked. Both runners moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch before three straight outs ended the inning.

Edward Waters in the seventh opened up with a single to left center and then moved the runner up on a sacrifice bunt. The runner on second attempted to score off a single, but was thrown out at home before the inning ended on a fly out to left.

The Tigers in the top of the eighth scored the game's only run off a sacrifice fly to score the runner from second to take a 1-0 lead.

With the Badgers down to their final three outs, John Webb doubled and was thrown out attempting to take third for the first out. The Tigers, after that, recorded the final two outs to hand Spring Hill its first loss of the tournament.

Jordan Black, Webb, and Benoit tallied the team's three hits, with Benoit and Webb tallying a double.

Roux recorded three of the team's five walks.

Wyatt Brown went seven and a third innings, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out seven. He took his first loss of the season and is now 8-1.

Spring Hill will play in an elimination game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
