Baseball Advances to SIAC Championship

MACON, Ga. – The top-seeded Spring Hill College baseball team kept its season alive with a 6-4 win in an elimination game over No. 5Morehouse College this afternoon. The Badgers are now 39-15 on the year, while Morehouse falls 24-22. With the win, Spring Hill tied its total wins from 2025.

With two down in the bottom of the first, Jatneir Torres was hit by a pitch to keep the inning alive. He then took second on a wild pitch. Jaylen Jones' RBI single to left scored Torres to put the Badgers up 1-0. Spring Hill was able to put runners on first and second when Gavin Moran walked on four straight pitches. Both runners moved up 90 feet, and John Webb reached first after striking out, but the throw from the catcher to get him out at first was muffed to load the bases. Jones later scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 before the inning ended.

Spring Hill in the top of the third added another pair of runs. It started with Moran reaching first on a walk with one down, and he then advanced to third when Webb singled to center to put runners on the corners.  Moran later scored off Andrew Juez's RBI bunt single to push the lead to 3-0 and send Webb to second. Webb later stole third to put runners on the corners with one down. Following a flyout in foul ground at third base, Juez stole second, and then Reggie Cooper walked. Roux loaded the bases following being plunked, which allowed Webb to touch home and make it 4-0 Badgers.

Both teams added a run each in the fourth and fifth innings, with Spring Hill leading 6-2 going into the top of the sixth.

Following a scoreless sixth inning for each team, Morehouse cut the lead to three when it tallied three straight singles to make it 6-3 in the top of the seventh.

Morehouse, down to its final three outs, threatened as it pushed a run across to cut the lead to 6-4 and had the tying run come to the plate with two outs, but a strikeout ended the threat.

Starter Ray Ochoa went six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, while striking out nine. His performance earned him the win to go to 9-2 on the year.

Reliever Dylan Peck picked up the save for his third of the season. He went three innings, giving up two runs on six hits, and struck out four.

Reggie Cooper finished the game going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Teammate Webb was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Moran tallied a pair of runs while finishing with a team-high three walks.

Roux, Jones, and Juez each tallied a hit and an RBI.

Spring Hill will face Edward Waters University at 4 p.m. today in the championship. The Badgers will need to win two to take home the title since Edward Waters has not lost a game all tournament.
