Softball Drops Pair of Non-Conference Games to Montevallo

The Spring Hill College softball team saw their five-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday afternoon as the Badgers dropped a pair of games against the University of Montevallo. Spring Hill lost 10-4 and 7-0 to bring their record to 25-20 on the season.

Game 1: Spring Hill 4, Montevallo 10
Spring Hill held a 3-1 lead in the second inning, but Montevallo scored three runs in each of the third, fourth, and sixth innings to pull away from the Badgers.

McKenzie King had the only multi-hit game for Spring Hill, going 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Destiny Pierce had 2 RBI and Amanda Glowacki and Janci Aube had 1 RBI each.

After Montevallo broke the scoreless tie with a run in the top of the second inning, Spring Hill got things going in the bottom of the second to take the 3-1 lead. The Badgers had the bases loaded with one out and Glowacki at the plate. She grounded out, driving in one, then Pierce singled down the right field line to score two more, putting Spring Hill up 3-1.

Montevallo retook the lead with three runs in the third, but Spring Hill had a chance to get back on top in the bottom half of the inning, only to strand two runners on base, still trailing by one. Another three runs by Montevallo put the Badgers deeper in the hole as it was now a 7-3 game. Spring Hill again stranded runners in the fourth, leaving the bases loaded this time, then Montevallo all but put the game out of reach with another three runs in the sixth to make it 10-3. The Badgers got one back in the bottom half of the inning, but that would be it for their rally as Spring Hill would fall, 10-4.

Game 2: Spring Hill 0, Montevallo 7
The Badgers were shutout in game two, losing 7-0.
Spring Hill was being no-hit by the Falcons' start until Aube hit a single to break up the no-hitter in the fourth. The Badgers, however, could not push Aube across as the inning ended with a double play and the team trailing 3-0.

Montevallo would add another four runs to send Spring Hill to defeat.

The Badgers remain home to play their last SIAC series of the regular season. Spring Hill will welcome Kentucky State to Murray Field for three games, with the Saturday double-header beginning at 1 p.m.
