The Spring Hill softball team completed the three-game sweep of Lane College with a 10-2 win Sunday afternoon. The win pushes Spring Hill's record to 20-16, but more importantly, to 14-2 in SIAC games, helping them keep pace with Tuskegee in the standings.
The Badgers got their bats going early again in this contest to help distance themselves from Lane, scoring 4 runs in the first innings and 5 in the second to break open a 9-0 lead.
Spring Hill strung together three straight singles, with
Oscha Carter coming around to score on
Jesslyn Gordon's base hit to make it 1-0. A few batters later, with the bases loaded and two outs,
Amanda Glowacki ripped a triple down the right field line to clear the bases and make it 4-0.
The first four batters reached base to open the second inning, with Gordon, the last of the four batters up to the plate, ripping a single to left field to plate two runs and make it 6-0. Ahrens walked to re-load the bases, then another walk, drawn by
Molly Pitts, brought in Carter to push the lead to 7-0, Glowacki once again came through in the clutch, coming up with a base knock that pushed across two more runs and put Spring Hill in control at 9-0 after the second inning.
Lane scored one run in the third inning and another in the fifth to make it 9-2, but the Badgers ended it fairly quickly in the bottom of the fifth.
Belle Sheffield led off the inning with a single, then
McKenzie King ripped a triple to deep right center, scoring Sheffield from first to walk it off.
Glowacki and Gordon were both 2-for-2 on the day, Glowacki coming through with 5 RBI and Gordon tallying 3 RBI and scoring 2 runs. Villar and King also had 2-hit days, with each scoring a run and King delivering the game-winning RBI.
Emma Curry started the game and picked up the win, giving up 1 run and striking out 3 in three innings.
Janci Aube came on in relief and finished the game, giving up one run and striking out 4 across two innings pitched.
Spring Hill will prep for a mid-week, non-conference doubleheader against West Florida, set to take place at Murray Field on Tuesday, March 31st.
