Baseball Sweeps Series Against Savannah State

MOBILE, Ala. – Seven different hitters guide the Spring Hill College baseball team to a 7-4 win over visiting Savannah State University this afternoon to sweep the conference series. The Badgers are now 18-12 and 14-4 in the SIAC, while the Tigers fall to 13-14 and 10-8.

The win today moves Spring Hill to first in the conference holding the head-to-head over Albany State University.

Trailing 2-1 going into the bottom of the fourth, Alex Roux singled and Gavin Moran followed that up with a walk to put runners on first and second.  Following an out, Andrew Juez dropped down a bunt single to load the bases full of Badgers. George Bode tied the game at two on his sacrifice fly to right that scored Roux. Both Moran and Juez were able to move up 90 feet each on the play.  Eli Benoit cleared the bases with a double to left field to give Spring Hill a 4-2 lead.

Ethan Davis kept the inning moving when he drew a four-pitch walk. Benoit later came around to score off Jordan Black's RBI single through the right side to push the lead to 5-2 before the inning closed.

Spring Hill added a run in the fifth and one in the eighth to go up 7-2 headed to the ninth.

Savannah State in the ninth plated a pair of runs on two hits, a walk and a fielder's choice to cut the lead to 7-4, but a flyout to left ended the rally.

Spring Hill starter Wyatt Brown picked up his third win (3-0) of the season. He scattered three hits over seven innings giving up two runs (both earned), while striking out six.

Benoit finished the day at the plate going 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two walks, a double, and a pair runs scored.

Roux, Moran, Webb, and Juez combined for four hits, three RBIs, a double, a home run, and five runs scored.

Spring Hill is on the road on Tuesday, March 24 when it travels to Auburn University Montgomery at 4 p.m. CT.
