Badgers Dominate at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team extends win streak to four with a 10-2 road win at the University of Montevallo this afternoon to. The Badgers move to 14-9 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 8-15.

Spring Hill, following a scoreless first inning, took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second off Alex Roux's two-run home run to left field that scored Jaylen Jones.

The Badgers in the top of the third continued to add to their lead, and it started when Jatneir Torres and Jordan Black each walked. Then came around to score off Jones' three-run shot to straightaway center to push the lead to 5-0.

Montevallo got on the board in the bottom of the fourth following a home run to center to cut the lead to 5-1 before the inning ended.

Spring Hill broke the game open in the top of the seventh when it plated five runs across to go up 10-1. It all started when Black walked, and John Webb reached on a fielding error to put runners on the corners.  Webb then stole second to put runners in scoring position. Jones loaded the bases when he was walked. Pinch hitter Drew Bode drove in both Black and Webb with a two-run single up the middle to make it 7-1.  Andrew Juez kept things going when he walked to reload the bases with no outs.

Eli Benoit dropped a single into center to drive in a pair, and two errors allowed the third run to score to make it 10-1 before the inning ended on three straight outs.

The Falcons in their half of the seventh were able to get one of the runs back on two hits to make it 10-2.

Montevallo in the bottom of the ninth looked to rally with bases loaded and one out, but a double play ball ended the threat to end the game.

Spring Hill as a team finished with eight hits (four singles, two doubles, and two home runs) and eight walks.

Starting pitcher Donovan Monsees scattered three hits over five innings, allowing just one run, while striking out one. With his performance, he picked up the win to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Jones led the Badgers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored, three RBIs, and a home run. Teammate Weston Kirk also tallied a pair of hits, with one being a double.

Torres, Roux, Dode, and Benoit each finished with a hit. Roux registered the team's second home run, while both Torres and Kirk tallied doubles. 

Spring Hill is on the road this weekend when it faces conference rival Miles College for a three-game series that starts on Saturday with a doubleheader. Game one is set for 11 a.m. CT with game two to follow.
