Spring Hill Sweeps First Day of SIAC Crossover


HOOVER, Ala. - The Spring Hill College Softball team opened up the SIAC Crossover Tournament with a pair of wins against Edward Waters, 2-1, and Fort Valley State, 6-3.

In the first game of SIAC Crossover play, Spring Hill (6-11, 4-1 SIAC) gave Edward Waters (13-12, 5-2 SIAC) their second conference loss of the season in a defensive battle.
 
Rycca Hinton scored both of the runs for the Badgers. One off an error from the Tiger defense and another off the bat of Oscha Carter.
 
Jena Pacheco, McKenzie King, and Destiny Pierce each secured a hit in the game.
 
Emma Curry (3-3) pitched the complete game and showed why she is the reigning SIAC Pitcher of the Week with a five-strikeout performance.
 
Spring Hill 6, Fort Valley State 3

SHC's bats stayed hot in the second game of the day against Fort Valley State (8-12, 5-6 SIAC).
 
Hinton once again opened scoring, hitting an inside the park home run in the first. The scoring streak continued for the next three innings, putting the Badgers up by three.
 
In the sixth, the Badgers were able to grow the lead with an RBI single by Amanda Glowack and two-run double by Pacheco.
 
Leighanna Turk (2-3) started the game for the Badgers, pitching 6.2 innings with a strikeout and a walk. Lauren Glass came in relief and completed the game for Spring Hill.
