PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Spring Hill College volleyball team picked up its first win of the season against Florida Tech, 3-2, before falling 3-1 to #21 West Florida during the first day of the Outback Invitational at the UWF Field House on Friday.
Against Florida Tech (4-2), Spring Hill (1-5) picked up its first win of the season 12-25, 12-25, 30-28, 25-19, 20-18. The Badgers came back from a 2-0 deficit to win the match and hit for .300 in the fifth set while holding the Panthers to .211.
Airyonna Weaver led the match with 22 digs and three service aces. She also led the team with a career-high 17 kills.
Emily Cook, who was named the SIAC Setter of the Week on Tuesday, led the match with a career-high 37 assists.
The Badgers fell to #21 West Florida (5-1), 16-25, 9-25, 26-24, 16-25 in their second match of the day. After falling behind 2-0 to start, Spring Hill won the third set while hitting .167 and holding UWF to .135.
Brooke Borgmeyer led the team with 11 kills while Cook led with 13 assists. On defense, Borgmeyer led alongside
Lillie Casey and
Hayley Hillman with two total blocks apiece. Weaver also contributed to the Badger defense with eight digs.
