MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team had its ninth-inning comeback cut short in a 6-5 loss to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) foe Albany State at Sims-Gale Field on Saturday.
The game, which was scheduled for an 11 a.m. start, was delayed jsut over two hours due to weather. It remained scoreless for the first four innings before both teams put two runs on the board apiece in the fifth. The Golden Rams (33-8, 30-2 SIAC) took the lead on a RBI single in the seventh inning and tacked on three more runs in the eighth to make it a 6-2 game. The Badgers (28-21, 25-7 SIAC) answered with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by a home run over the right field wall by
Seth Williams.
Solon White entered in the top of the ninth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning which kept the game within two runs (6-4).Â
Ethan Valdez led the bottom of the ninth off with an 0-2 single up the middle, then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Norris McClure hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Valdez and bring the game within a run, 6-5. Luke Addison earned his first save of the season when
Gage Ragona flied out for the final out of the game.Â
Chase Karn (1-0) captured his first win of the season while
Bryce Thomas (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season on the mound. The game marked the end of the regular season for both teams.
