ALBANY, Ga. – The Spring Hill College baseball team started its postseason run with a 6-3 win over No. 3 Edward Waters in the 2023 Cricket Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Baseball Championship Tournament at the Albany State Univeristy, West Campus on Thursday.
Michael Racobaldo (2-4) struck out six batters across three innings for Spring Hill (29-21, 25-7 SIAC)Â en route to the 6-3 opening-round tournament win over Edward Waters (23-21, 16-13 SIAC).
Chad Coffman came in and struck out three batters over the final four innings to complete his first save of the season.Â
The Badgers scored all six of its runs in the first three innings while not allowing any from the Tigers. Second-team all-conference selection
Norris McClure opened scoring with a RBI single, followed by a two-run RBI single from
Luke Sweeney in the first inning.
Gage Ragona, another all-conference second team member, belted a RBI triple into right field to keep the momentum going for SHC in the second inning. First-team all-conference outfielder
Jackson Bell hit a RBI single in the second inning as well to extend the Badger lead to 5-0. In his first game since April,
Parker Serio brought a run home on a sacrifice bunt to put Spring Hill in front with six unanswered runs in the third inning. Edward Waters answered in the sixth inning with a single run and tried to generate a comeback in the ninth inning with two more runs, bringing the game within three (6-3). The Badgers hung on to defeat the Tigers 6-3 in the opening game of the conference tournament.
