Baseball holds off ninth-inning comeback from Benedict to sweep series

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Spring Hill College baseball team completed a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series sweep of Benedict with a 7-5 win at Tiger Field on Sunday.

Spring Hill (26-18, 24-4 SIAC) defeated Benedict (13-19, 8-17 SIAC) while being led by Jackson Bell, who went 2-for-4 while scoring two runs and batting in one.

The Badgers bolted ahead, scoring seven runs over nine innings and did not receive an answer from the Tigers until the bottom of the ninth. Benedict plated five runs in the ninth, but had its comeback cut short by Spring Hill. The Badgers, who lead Division II in stolen bases (223), stole six bags and did not allow any from the Tigers.

Kai St. Germaine (6-3) scattered six strikeouts and three hits and gave up no runs over six innings en route to his victory on the mound. Mizelle Fareed (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season on the bump for Benedict.
