NEW YORK –
Beril Kabamba and
Steven Lyles will represent Spring Hill College at the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Top 50 Basketball Camp starting on Wednesday. Â
Â
The Top 50 Basketball Camp is hosted by the NBPA in collaboration with the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) on the campus of Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Ga., July 28-30. Â
Â
The camp started in 2017 and features the top players from the SIAC and SWAC. Participants at the camp work with active and retired NBA players on and off the court on technical skill, leadership and personal development.
Â
Kabamba, a sophomore forward and second-team All-SIAC selection in 2022, averaged 14.3 points and 7.7 rebounds a game during his redshirt freshman year. The Clearwater, Fla., native also dished out 46 assists and 26 steals last season.
Â
Lyles, a sophomore guard, averaged 6.8 points and 3.2 rebounds a game during his freshman year. He shot 49.6% (58-117) from the floor and 78% (26-33) from the free throw line.
Â
Chase Shellman was the first Badger basketball player to represent Spring Hill at the Top 50 Camp back in 2018.
Â
"The Top 50 Camp has proven to be an amazing environment for the NBPA to deepen its connection with the HBCU community," said Purvis Short, NBPA Chief of Player Programs. "After a two-year pause due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are very excited to resume our partnership with the SIAC and SWAC to provide an all-encompassing experience for these HBCU athletes that will help prepare them for success on and off the court."
Â
The camp also focuses on cultivating and creating coaching and talent pipelines for current and retired NBA players interested in exploring transition into intercollegiate athletics careers. In addition to the development opportunities, the players will be able to showcase their talent against their neighboring conference through scrimmages.
