Badgers Baseball tarnishes Golden Bears, 4-0

MOBILE, Ala. (April 29, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers baseball team rolled to a 4-0 victory over the Miles College Golden Bears in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game at historic Stan Galle Field on Friday night.

The Badgers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over the Golden Bears (23-19; 19-8 SIAC) with a 3-run outburst in the 1st inning sparked by a pair of RBI-doubles from right fielder Grayson Williams and left fielder Luke Sweeney that were followed with a run-scoring single to right by second baseman Frankie Timphony.

From there, the game became a pitching duel between the starters of Colin Millar (9-3) of SHC and Kolton Easterwood (7-4) for Miles. Millar benefited from 4-6-3 double play to end the 2nd inning and a batter's interference call on Miles that erased a stolen base in the 6th frame before handing the ball over to Michael Romano to start the 8th inning.

The Badgers tracked on a run with a one-out sacrifice fly in the 7th inning, but saw the inning end on an appeal to 2nd base after a runner missed the bag while returning to 1st base.

Millar allowed just two hits in 7.0 innings with two walks and five strikeouts while Romano finished the game by facing six batters, including a line-drive unassisted double play at 1st base by Micah Morgan and a game-ending strikeout.

Easterwood lasted 5.1 innings with eight hits, three walks and four strikeouts before loading the bases and surrendering the mound to Will Cantey who escaped the jam on one pitch with a 4-6-3 double play.

Williams and Timphony both found two hits and an RBI on the night while Sweeney had a double and a sacrifice fly for two RBI.

The Badgers (32-13; 21-4 SIAC) will close out the 2022 regular season versus the Golden Bears with a noon doubleheader on Saturday. Between games on Saturday, the Badgers will honor their Senior Class teammates with the annual Senior Day ceremony.
