MONTEVALLO, Ala. (March 30, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers baseball team suffered a 13-4 non-conference road loss to the University of Montevallo Falcons on Wednesday afternoon on Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium.
The Falcons (23-8) took an early 1-0 lead after the second batter of the game Jake Smallwood doubled to right field scoring leadoff hitter Asa Awbrey who reached on a hit-by-pitch. Later in the frame, Reed Latimer doubled down the left field line with two outs to plate Ben Teel, making it a 2-0 Montevallo cushion.
A bases-loaded double-play put a third run on the board for the Falcons in the 5
th inning, but the Badgers rallied to put two runs in the book in the 6
th inning off a run-scoring triple by
Frankie Timphony, who later trotted home on a grounder to 2
nd by
Cam Brock.
Montevallo then used two walks, two hit-by-pitches, and three hits including a 3-run homer to put seven runs on the board in the 6
th inning.
An infield error with two outs put a run across the plate for the Badgers and Brock followed with an RBI-double to make it a 10-4 score heading into the stretch.
A triple by Awbrey in the bottom of the 7
th inning made it 12-4 and Awbrey came home off a single by Even Kirk to put the Badgers in a 13-4 hole.
Solon White (0-1) took the loss in his first start of the season, going 4.0 innings with five hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Five Badger pitchers allowed 11 hits, eight walks and six hit batters with five strikeouts.

Norris McClure both picked up two hits for SHC.
Four Montevallo pitchers surrendered 10 hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.
The Badgers (16-10; 8-4 SIAC West) will visit the Lane College Dragons (6-16; 3-9 SIAC West) in Jackson, Tenn. for a 3-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series this weekend, beginning on Saturday with a noon doubleheader followed by a single game on Sunday at noon.
