MOBILE, Ala. (March 27, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers baseball team's potent offensive punch continued to roll on Sunday afternoon as the Badgers swept a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader away from the Clark Atlanta University (CAU) Panthers by the scores of 15-5 and 6-2 at historic Stan Galle Field.
SHC bolted out of the gate in the opening game taking a 10-0 lead after just one inning of play as the Panthers (7-22; 1-11 SIAC East) surrendered eight walks and four hits in the opening frame.
Logan Clark (2-1) earned the win in 6.0 innings of work with a Badger season-high 12 strikeouts while giving up just four hits and four walks.
Michael Romano finished the final inning with one hit allowed and two strikeouts.
Right fielder
Grayson Williams had two hits with a double and two RBI while third baseman
Norris McClure added two hits with a triple and two RBI. Left fielder
Luke Sweeney punched out two hits with a double and three RBI.
Four Panther pitchers gave up nine hits and 14 walks to the Badger lineup with four strikeouts.
The second game of the day was a change of pace for the Badgers this year as SHC leaned on the arm of
Jackson Short (3-0) who held the Panthers scoreless through 5 innings with just two hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
Williams put the Badgers on the board with a solo home run in the 1
st inning and catcher
Daniel Seres made it 3-0 in the 2
nd stanza with a 2-run dinger for his first round-tripper of the year. First baseman
Micah Morgan found a hole on the right side of the infield with two outs in the 4
th inning for a run-scoring single.
CAU rallied for two runs in the 6
th inning off reliever
Matthew Delcambre with back-to-back doubles followed by two RBI-grounders, but the leftie finished the final four outs with three more grounders and a game-ending strikeout.
Michael Fegins (0-7) took the loss for CAU in 3.2 innings with five hits, three walks and one strikeout. Justice Page moved from third base to the mound for the final 2.1 innings, allowing four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
The Badgers (16-9; 8-4 SIAC West) will visit Montevallo, Ala. on Wednesday for a game with the University of Montevallo Falcons (21-8) on Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium beginning at 3 p.m.
