Badgers shear ASU Golden Rams in road DH

ALBANY, Ga. (March 20, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers baseball team rebounded from a disappointing loss on Saturday to sweep a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader away from the Albany State University (ASU) Golden Rams at West Campus Stadium on Sunday afternoon by the scores of 19-0 and 14-7.

SHC used a school-record 16-run top of the 9th inning to blow open a 3-0 contest versus the Golden Rams (12-7; 11-3 SIAC East). In the game, Badger first baseman Micah Morgan tied a school record for doubles with four, going 4-for-5 with four RBI. Every Badger batter in the lineup earned at least one hit and scored a run while Grant Akridge, Frankie Timphony and Norris McClure each homered.

Logan Clark evened his record at 2-2, going 7.0 innings with four hits, three walks and six strikeouts. Jeremiah Reddell fell to 3-2, lasting seven innings with five hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

The Badgers picked up in the nightcap where they left off in the first contest, bolting out to a 6-2 lead in the first two innings before answering a 3-run ASU rally in the 5th frame with a 4-run 6th and 3-run 7th innings. Right fielder Grayson Williams was 3-for-4 with a double as was catcher Daniel Seres.

A suddenly hot-hitting Timphony was 2-of-3 with two RBI while Luke Sweeney enjoyed a 4-of-5 day outing with four RBI.

Jackson Short moved to 3-0 on the year in relief of starter Colin Millar, who had the oddity of pitching a no-hit inning of relief in game 1 and starting the first inning of the second game. Short went 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Tyler Bullock (2-1) of ASU lasted three innings with nine hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

The Badgers (12-9; 5-4 SIAC West) will host the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers (7-20) in a non-conference game at 3 p.m. Wednesday on historic Stan Galle Field.
