Badgers crush Benedict

MOBILE, Ala. (March 12, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers baseball team returned to the winning track after suffering a 4-game losing streak last by sweeping both ends of a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader away from the Benedict College (BC) Tigers on Saturday afternoon at historic Stan Galle Field by the scores of 29-5 and 20-2.

In the first game, Alex Holz (1-0) picked up the win by allowing no hits and two walks with three strikeouts in two relief innings of Conner Ingram who went three innings with three hits, four walks and five strikeouts.

Grayson Williams connected on his second Grand Slam of the year totaling five RBI with two hits while Norris McClure was 4-of-5 with two homers, including a Grand Slam and nine RBI. The Badgers totaled 16 hits and 17 walks as Gage Ragona equaled a SHC record with five walks in the game.

The nightcap saw Jackson Short (2-0) earn the win in five innings, allowing four hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

Williams blasted his third Gram Slam of the year and designated hitter Grant Akridge lifted a solo dinger. Six Badgers enjoyed a multiple hit outing.

The Badgers (8-8; 2-3 SIAC West) will finish this 3-game series with the Tigers (2-15; 2-8 SIAC East) at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Stan Galle Field.
