MOBILE, Ala. (February 9, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team earned a 9-1 non-conference home victory over the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks on Wednesday afternoon at historic Stan Galle Field.
SHC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the Warhawks (1-4) when designated hitter
Grant Akridge blasted a 2-run 1
st-inning shot out of left-center.
The Badgers grew the lead to 4-0 with single runs in the 4
th and 5
th frames, but then poured gasoline on the fire with a 5-run 7
th inning.
Five Badger pitchers combined to allow the Warhawks just five hits with seven walks and four strikeouts as
Jackson Short (1-0) picked up the win in three innings of relief work in which he surrendered one hit and no walks with a strikeout.
The Badgers battered six AUM pitchers for 14 hits and five walks as shortstop
Norris McClure slapped around three hits with an RBI. Five other Badgers collected a pair of hits each.
The Badgers (3-0) will travel to the "Peach State" this weekend to face the 12
th-ranked Columbus State University Cougars (4-0) in a 3-game non-conference series at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field beginning with a single game on Saturday at 3 p.m. (east) followed by a 1 p.m. (east) doubleheader on Sunday.
