Badgers shock No. 12 Columbus State, 8-5
COLUMBUS, Ga. (February 12, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team used an early-inning offensive outburst to win an 8-5 non-conference road tilt at the 12th-ranked Columbus State University (CSU) Cougars on Saturday afternoon at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.

SHC grabbed an early 1-0 lead over the Cougars (4-1) when Gage Ragona led off the game with a home run out of right field, setting the tone for the afternoon. Cade Simpson made it 2-0 with a solo blast in the 2nd inning and Ragona picked up a second RBI with a run-scoring single in the same frame.

Ragona added a painful third RBI in the 4th by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Grayson Williams thought, "That works for me" and repeated the performance on the next at-bat making it 4-0. Micah Morgan also lifted a sacrifice fly to right to plate Frankie Timphony in the 4th and Ragona collected his 4th RBI with a double to left center in the 7th stanza.

Morgan scored in the 8th via a Norris McClure single while CSU made the game close in the 9th with two solo home runs.

Colin Millar took the win in 1.2 innings of relief of Conner Ingram who lasted 4.0 innings with three hits, three walks and one strikeout while Jackson Short took the save in 3.1 innings allowing three hits, with a walk and two strikeouts.

CSU pitching surrendered 11 hits with six walks and 10 strikeouts to the Badgers.

The Badgers (4-0) will remain in Columbus overnight to face the Cougars in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday.
