Badgers shock No. 12 Columbus State, 8-5
COLUMBUS, Ga. (February 12, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team used an early-inning offensive outburst to win an 8-5 non-conference road tilt at the 12
th-ranked Columbus State University (CSU) Cougars on Saturday afternoon at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.
SHC grabbed an early 1-0 lead over the Cougars (4-1) when
Gage Ragona led off the game with a home run out of right field, setting the tone for the afternoon.
Cade Simpson made it 2-0 with a solo blast in the 2
nd inning and Ragona picked up a second RBI with a run-scoring single in the same frame.
Ragona added a painful third RBI in the 4
th by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Grayson Williams thought, "That works for me" and repeated the performance on the next at-bat making it 4-0.
Micah Morgan also lifted a sacrifice fly to right to plate
Frankie Timphony in the 4
th and Ragona collected his 4
th RBI with a double to left center in the 7
th stanza.
Morgan scored in the 8
th via a
Norris McClure single while CSU made the game close in the 9
th with two solo home runs.
Colin Millar took the win in 1.2 innings of relief of
Conner Ingram who lasted 4.0 innings with three hits, three walks and one strikeout while
Jackson Short took the save in 3.1 innings allowing three hits, with a walk and two strikeouts.
CSU pitching surrendered 11 hits with six walks and 10 strikeouts to the Badgers.
The Badgers (4-0) will remain in Columbus overnight to face the Cougars in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday.
