Badgers fall twice at No. 12 Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. (February 13, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers baseball team lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at the 12th-ranked Columbus State University (CSU) Cougars by the scores of 16-4 and 11-6 on Sunday afternoon at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.

SHC grabbed an early 4-0 lead over the Cougars (6-1) in the opener with a 4-run outburst in the top of the 1st inning, but a 2-run homer by CSU halved the advantage to 4-2 in the bottom of the frame. A solo shot by CSU later in the inning made it just a 4-3 Badger lead.

A 3-run 2nd inning by the Cougars put SHC in a 6-3 hole from which the Badgers never recovered.

Five Badger pitchers allowed 13 hits and eight walks with five strikeouts as Logan Clark (1-1) took the loss in 2.1 innings of work. Noah Windhorst (2-0) earned the win in 5.0 innings with eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Badger designated hitter Grant Akridge was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI while shortstop Norris McClure 2-for-4 with a double.

The nightcap saw the Badgers fall behind 2-0 after two innings before falling 11-6 in the final score.

Five Badger pitchers combined to surrender 13 hits and three walks with four strikeouts as Michael Romano (0-1) took the 2-inning loss allowing eight hits with one strikeout.

Micah Morgan had two hits with a home run, a double and three RBI while Gage Ragona added two hits with a double and an RBI. Colton Joyner (1-0) of CSU earned the win in 5.0 innings with four hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

The Badgers (4-2) will host long-time rival the University of Montevallo Falcons (6-0) at historic Stan Galle Field on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
