MONTEVALLO, Ala. (September 8, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team swept to a 3-0 (26-24; 25-21; 25-18) non-conference road victory over the University of Montevallo Falcons in Trustmark Arena on Wednesday night.
The Falcons (3-2) and the Badgers traded blows at a point-for-point pace throughout the thrilling first set in which SHC clawed out a heart-pounding 26-24 win. The second set saw SHC rally to take a come-from-behind victory in the second set 25-21.
SHC found another gear in the third set, racing out to a 10-point advantage before cruising to a 25-18 win.
Middle hitter
Kassandra Fairly hit .308 (13-5-26) with two aces to pace the Badger scoring with 15 points while
Grace Harris and
Jessica Fairly shared the duties at setter with 20 and 19 assists respectively.
Taylor Fontenelle scooped up 18 digs with two aces and
Mikayla Boyer found a double/double with 16 digs and 10 kills.
As a team, the Badgers hit for a workmanlike .246 (49-16-134) average with 46 assists, 4 aces, 2 blocks (0-4) and 65 digs. The SHC defense limited Montevallo to .162 (39-18-130) in attack percentage with just one ace. The Falcons successfully frustrated the SHC attack with 6 blocks (4-4) and 62 digs, however.
The Badgers (1-4) continue traveling to Memphis, Tenn. this weekend to play in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division Cluster I at the W.W. Herenton Renaissance Center beginning on Friday versus the hosting LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians (0-4) at 11:30 a.m.
