MEMPHIS, Tenn. (September 10, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team swept to a pair of 3-0 conference victories over the LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) Magicians and the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobreds at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division Cluster I at the W.W. Herenton Renaissance Center on Friday.
SHC cruised to a 25-11; 25-10; 25-15 victory in the morning match versus the Magicians (1-5, 0-1 SIAC) with middle hitter
Kassandra Fairly hitting .435 (11-1-23) including two aces and two blocks (1-1).
Grace Harris and
Jessica Fairly again shared the duties at setter with 13 and 18 assists respectively. Jessica also recorded a team-high 10 digs and
Mikayla Boyer had 9 digs and 12 receptions.
As a team, the Badgers hit .282 (44-15-103) average with 42 assists, 11 aces, 3 blocks (2-2) and 54 digs. The SHC defense limited LOC to .000 (16-16-91) in attack percentage with no aces, four blocks (0-8) and 36 digs.
The Thorobreds (2-3, 1-1 SIAC) gave the Badgers a fight throughout the second contest, but the Badgers would prevail 25-20; 25-18; 25-18. SHC used a more balanced offensive attack for the first time this season with
Kassandra Fairly and
Allison Weimer both collecting seven kills as seven Badgers earned multiple kills. Harris served as setter and handed out 23 of the 34 SHC assists while
Emily Weinzapfel dished up three aces with 15 digs. Boyer hauled in 15 digs and 18 receptions at libero.
SHC hit for a .141 (43-20-99) attack percentage with six aces, 51 digs and 4 blocks (0-8). For the second consecutive match, the Badgers held their opponent to a .000 (24-24-103) attack percentage. KSU totaled two aces, 42 digs, and six blocks (0-12).
The Badgers (2-4, 1-0 SIAC) will finish play in the SIAC West Division Cluster I at the W.W. Herenton Renaissance Center on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. versus the Central State University (CSU) Marauders (3-2, 2-0 SIAC).
