Badgers succumb to Moccasins, 4-0

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (September 6, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team closed out play at the annual Bobcat Kickoff Classic on Monday morning with a 4-0 non-conference loss to the Florida Southern College (FSC) Moccasins at Bobcat Field.

The Moccasins (3-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute after a foul by the Badgers on the right side of the box resulted in a successful penalty kick attempt by Rachel Peck.

FSC made it a 2-0 deficit for the Badgers in the 43rd minute with a one-on-one blast from straight on just inside the keeper's box by Meghan Kriney. One minute later, FSC tacked on a third goal with a left-footed rip from Courtney Chomko at the top corner of the box off an entry pass from the left side.

The lead grew to 4-0 in the 57th minute when Chomko added her second goal of the day.

Badger starting keeper Anna Brunner (0-2) took the loss in 45 minutes in goal while Hannah Linss took over for the second half. Brunner made 2 saves and Linss made 6 stops as the SHC keepers faced 34 shots and 13 corner kicks.

For the Moccasins, Jenny Staten earned the win with one save versus a shot from Mikaela Gamboa and a second from Kylie Long along with one corner kick by SHC all in the second half.

The Badgers (0-2) will travel to Americus, Ga. on Thursday to challenge the Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) Hurricanes (2-0) to a non-conference tilt beginning at 7 p.m. on Hurricane Field.
