PENSACOLA, Fla. (September 4, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team finished play at the Springhill Suites Invitational with a 3-1 (24-26; 25-17; 25-18; 25-21) loss to the 23
rd-ranked Wheeling University Cardinals and a 3-0 (25-19; 25-21; 25-21) downturn to the University of Southern Indiana (USI) Screaming Eagles on Saturday at the University of West Florida Field House.
In the morning contest, the Badgers (0-4) earned a tough 26-24 victory in the first set before the Cardinals (2-2) rallied to win the final three sets. Middle hitter
Kassandra Fairly recorded 14 kills and a .424 (14-0-23) attack percentage as the Badgers improved their hitting from Friday with an overall attack percentage of .246 (54-12-171).
Grace Harris and
Jessica Fairly split time at setter with Harris dealing out 23 assists and Fairly issuing 21 successful sets. Libero
Mikayla Boyer had 17 of the Badgers' 73 digs and 1 of the 2 SHC aces.
Defensively, SHC allowed Wheeling a .306 (69-17-170) attack percentage to go along with 66 assists, 3 aces, 95 digs and 3 (0-6) blocks. The Badgers tallied 11 blocks (1-20).
The Screaming Eagles (2-2) hit for a .299 (51-11-134) attack percentage versus the Badgers in the afternoon contest while collecting 48 assists, 3 aces, 65, digs and 6 (1-10) blocks.
Kassandra Fairly built a .333 (7-1-18) attack percentage with 1 solo and 2 assisted blocks.
Taylor Fontenelle stepped into the libero role for 18 digs and 16 receptions as Harris and
Jessica Fairly handed around 12 and 10 assists respectively. As a team, SHC hit .127 (32-17-118) with 30 assists, 4 aces, 59 digs and 4 (1-6) blocks.
SHC next travels to the University of Montevallo Falcons (2-1) on Wednesday for a non-conference meeting at 6 p.m. in Trustmark Arena.
