Badger ladies slip 3-0 to Chargers

MOBILE, Ala. (September 17, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team sloshed through another rainy contest interrupted by a 30-minute lightning delay on Sunday afternoon at Library Field, falling behind 2-0 in the early going before bowing 3-0 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) 3-0 in a Gulf South Conference match.

The Chargers (2-1-1; 1-0 GSC) jumped up 1-0 with a beautifully-place header by Laura Hasani off an entry from Carmen Endicott in the 16th minute of play. The rains then interrupted play for a half hour only to have UAH expand the advantage to 2-0 in the 22nd minute off a goal from Helena Gonzalez with assists from Endicott and Devyn Thompson.

SHC regrouped during the halftime intermission to keep the Chargers in check for most of the final 45 minutes except for a 51st minute unassisted score by Gonzalez.

Following the game, SHC head coach Emily Marcouiller said, "After the lightning break, we competed and controlled the last 30 minutes of the game, but by then it was too late. I was proud of the effort in the last 30, but we just have to be better at the start and mentally engaged.

"Our mistakes continue to cost us, but they can be fixed," she added. "This was not our best team performance, but we're focusing on the positives and will continue to work on what we can fix and continue getting better."

Badger starting keeper Anna Brunner (0-6) made four saves against 12 shots and seven corner kicks by UAH. While Adriana Wright of the Tigers had no saves versus one SHC shot and no corners in the first half and Hailey Hicks finished the second half with one save versus five Badgers' shots and one Badger corner attempt.

The Badgers (0-6; 0-2 GSC) will hit the road on Friday as they visit GSC foe the University of West Georgia (UWG) Wolves (2-1; 0-0 GSC) on University Field in Carrollton, Ga. at 5 p.m. (east)
