LIVINGSTON, Ala. (September 17, 2021) – The Spring Hill College men's soccer team opened Gulf South Conference (GSC) play on Friday night with a 2-0 loss to the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers at Tiger Field.
The Tigers (3-2-1; 1-0 GSC) took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 11
th minute by Richard Lopez off an assist from Reda Ikarrain. The advantage grew to 2-0 in the 27
th minute as a header by Vince Stans found the net following an entry by Lopez.
SHC keeper
Alessandro Erdelyi (3-2) had no saves versus five shots and five corners by the Tigers while Jules Dechert made four saves versus eight shots and five corners by the Badgers.
After the match, SHC head coach
Chris Leonardi commented, "West Alabama punished us with two good goals earlier on and they played a complete game. We need to be better in the final third. We competed all night long, but that is not enough at this level. We need to be more of a threat as a team going forward and hopefully we will do that on Sunday afternoon back at home in front of our fans."
The Badgers (3-2; 0-1 GSC) continue GSC play on Sunday versus the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Chargers (1-1-1) on Library Field beginning at 3:30 p.m.
