WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 12, 2021) – The Spring Hill College men's soccer team wrapped up a two-game road swing through Florida on Sunday with a 3-2 non-conference loss versus the Rollins College Tars in Barker Family Stadium at Cahall-Sandspur Field.
The loss snapped a 3-game winning streak by the Badgers to open the 2021 season.
The Tars (2-1-1) opened the scoring in the 23
rd minute when Georgios Koliniatis found the bottom right side of the goal with his right foot following an assist by Jonah Adomakoh.
SHC answered back 16 minutes later after
Albert Vila Truco put one into the bottom left of the net with an assist by
Joao Amaral. The Tars opened up some breathing room in the second half, however, when Koliniatis slipped a ball into the top right after a nifty assist by Dominic Adomakoh in the 67
th minute. Koliniatis completed his hat trick with a third goal in the 78
th minute, once again finding the top right shelf.
The Badgers refused to bow and sliced it to a 3-2 deficit in the 84
th minute as
Carlos Fernandes, ripped a score into the bottom left with an assist by
Luca Carrese.
SHC keeper
Alessandro Erdelyi (3-1) collected four saves versus 19 shots and 10 corners by the Tars while Maximillian Obermeier made two saves versus six shots and three corners by the Badgers.
After the match, SHC head coach
Chris Leonardi was realistic about his team's performance. "We made mistakes defensively that we were not punished for in our first three games," he said. "And today Rollins College took advantage of them. How we respond to this result this week will show where we are as a program."
The Badgers (3-1) open Gulf South Conference (GSC) play on Friday in Livingston, Ala. versus the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers (1-2) beginning at 5 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
