MOBILE, Ala. (August 22, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team returned from its one-year Covid compelled hibernation on Sunday evening to open the 2021 season with a 1-0 exhibition victory over the Millsaps College (MC) Majors at Library Field.
As to be expected with less than a week's practice under their belts and a heat index of 100+, the defenses of both the Majors and the Badgers were ahead of the curve in this contest as the sides struggled to find effective shots in the early going.
The Badgers broke the ice in the 27
th minute when sophomore
Carson Reeves from Birmingham found the net off an entry pass from true freshman
Cecilia Light of Palos Heights, Ill.
Second half play was dominated by midfield play as the coaches of both squads worked various alignments and player combinations.
Sophomore Badger keeper
Hannah Linss made 2 saves against 3 shots and a corner kick in the first half by Millsaps while sophomore
Anna Brunner of Birmingham earned 4 saves against 6 shots and a corner in the second period. Maddie Moore of the Majors also collected 6 saves in 80 minutes before yielding to Madison Milano for the final 10 minutes of play. Moore faced 11 shots and one corner from the Badgers and Milano saw one corner attempt in the waning seconds of the match.
The Badgers will wrap up preseason exhibition play on Saturday with a home friendly versus the University of Mobile Lady Rams (0-1-1) beginning at 4 p.m. on Library Field.
