MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers baseball team swept a doubleheader from the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers by the scores of 13-3 and 8-7 on Sunday afternoon at historic Stan Galle Field.
SHC exploded for seven runs in the 1
st inning of the opening game off Tigers (11-19) starter Javian Stone (2-3), who lasted just one inning with five hits, five walks and one strikeout. UWA used four pitchers in the 7-inning Mercy Rule decision and allowed 10 hits and six walks with five strikeouts.
Geo Camfield (4-3) went six innings for the victory and allowed nine hits with one walk and five strikeouts. SHC catcher
Bryce Walker crushed two home runs for a team season-high seven RBI and scored three times to lead the Badger offense while leadoff hitter and center fielder
Joseph Guidry was 4-for-4 with two RBI. Left fielder
Micah Morgan punched two hits with a double and an RBI.
The second game saw the Badgers escape the Tigers in the bottom of the 9
th when a sacrifice fly by right fielder
Grayson Williams tied the game at 7-7 and a walk-off, 2-out single by 1
st baseman
Walker Imwalle brought in designated hitter
Max Mattione.
SHC used six pitchers in the game with
Michael Cabeza (2-0) picking up the win in one inning of work with no hits and two walks. All told, the Badger staff surrendered 14 hits and six walks with 10 strikeouts.
Guidry added two more hits and two RBI to his day's totals while Imwalle had three hits with a solo home run. Second baseman
Frankie Timphony slapped around three hits for two RBI.
JP Elkins fell to 1-3 with the loss in two-thirds of an inning with three hits, a walk and a strikeout. Four Tiger pitchers struck out 10 Badgers, but also allowed 10 hits and three walks.
The Badgers (17-12) will wrap up their pandemic-shortened 2021 season on Wednesday with a single game versus the Columbus State University (CSU) Cougars (21-10) at Hank Aaron Stadium at 4 p.m.
