DAVIDSON, N.C. – The NCAA Division I Wildcats of Davidson College earned a 5-1 victory over the visiting Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers baseball team in Game 2 of a 3-game weekend set at Wilson Field on Friday night.
Davidson scratched a run across the plate in the 1
st inning off an RBI-ground out to the infield and then tacked on a second run with a run-scoring double in the 2
nd frame. From there, the teams would trade goose eggs on the scoreboard until a 2-run single by John Hosmer of the Wildcats with two outs in the 5
th inning made it a 4-0 cushion for the home team.
Conner Ingram (1-2) took the loss in 2.0 innings of work, allowing three hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Jackson Short took over to start the 3
rd inning and did a solid job keeping the Wildcats in check until Hosmer's hit in the 5
th inning. Short gave the Badgers 3.0 innings with four hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
Michael Cabeza pitched the final three innings surrendering five hits with no walks and three strikeouts as the Wildcats put a final run over home plate with two outs in the bottom of the 8
th inning.
Blake Hely (3-1) of Davidson would not allow a run until the bottom of the 8
th inning when center fielder
Joseph Guidry's RBI-ground out to short brought in third baseman
Norris McClure with two outs. McClure also had two of the four hits on the Badgers' score sheet. Hely allowed two walks and struck out five Badger batters in his 8.0 innings of work.
The Badgers (4-8) and the Wildcats (8-8) will meet again on Sunday at 11 1.m. (EDT) at Wilson Field.
