Wildcat 9th inning rally sinks Badgers, 8-5
DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers baseball team lost an 8-5 decision to NCAA Division I Davidson College on Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field as the Wildcats rallied to score six runs with no outs in the bottom of the 9th inning capped by a walk-off Grand Slam.

The Wildcats (9-8) took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning off a run-scoring hit-by-pitch, but the Badgers rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the 5th frame as designated hitter Mason Bonnaffons drove a 2-run single into right with two outs.

SHC added two more runs in the 6th off an RBI-single by right fielder Grayson Williams that was followed by a single to center by 2nd baseman Frankie Timphony that brought in 3rd baseman Norris McClure from second.

A passed ball with two outs led to a Wildcat run in the bottom of the 6th inning, but reliever Michael Novak coaxed a pop-up to the infield to end the threat. Bonnaffons would strike again in the 9th inning with a two-out double to bring in pinch runner Gage Ragona from 3rd base as the Badger cushion expanded to 5-2.

SHC starter Geo Camfield went 5.0 innings allowing just two hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Closer Dalton Baxley (0-2) took the loss allowing four hits and two hit batters with Wildcat center fielder Parker Nolan providing the game-ending home run.

Alex Fenton started for the Wildcats with 5.2 innings and allowing five hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Nolan Devos (2-0) earned the win in 1.0 inning of work with just two hits allowed.

Bonnaffons had two hits and three RBI for SHC while Williams added three hits and one RBI.

The Badgers (4-9) finish this road trip with a non-conference game at the University of Montevallo Falcons (9-12) on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Kermit A. Johnson Field.
