Volleyball picks up two more wins at final day of West Cluster

MOBILE, Ala. (October 9, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team closed out Day 2 of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division Cluster with a pair of victories over the Lemoyne-Owen College (LOC) Magicians and the Central State University (CSU) Marauders on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

SHC held the Magicians (4-16; 3-9 SIAC) to a -.096 (13-23-104) attack percentage with 12 assists, one ace, 44 digs, and four (1-6) blocks while building a .258 (37-12-97) attack percentage of their own with 36 assists, nine aces, 63 digs, and six (2-8) blocks as the Badgers won 25-11; 25-14; 25-11)

Brooke Borgmeyer had eight kills and two aces while Jessica Fairly handed out 12 assists. Courtney Faulkner had 11 assists and three aces in just two sets played. Mikayla Boyer made 10 digs with Hailee Richard adding nine more with 13 receptions. Kassandra Fairly, meanwhile, focused on her defense in route to two solo and three assisted blocks.

The feisty Marauders (11-7; 6-4 SIAC) were led by Ajanae Cressey with 18 kills, but the Badgers rallied after dropping the first set to earn a 3-1 (22-25; 25-21; 25-18; 25-17) victory. SHC held a .230 (51-16-152) attack percentage with 46 assists, 11 aces, 81 digs, and three (1-4) blocks while CSU finished with a .181 (53-22-171) attack percentage with 50 assists, three aces, 75 digs, and four (0-8) blocks on the night.

The elder Fairly had 14 kills, an ace, and a block assist at middle hitter while Grace Harris dished around 22 assists. Emily Weinzapfel had 20 digs and 20 receptions with Boyer making 16 digs with 29 receptions. Olivia Peyton contributed a solo and an assisted block along with two kills while senior Allison Weimer dropped in 13 kills and a block assist.

The Badgers (21-5; 15-0 SIAC) will next visit the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers (4-12; 4-10 SIAC) on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.
