LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team lost both ends of a road doubleheader at non-conference rival the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers at Tartt Field on Saturday afternoon by the scores of 4-0 and 2-1.
The Tigers (8-10) earned a 4-0 victory in the opening contest as Tiger starter Peyton Warren (4-2) went the distance, scattering six hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Badger starter
Taylor Gibson (0-1) lasted five innings, allowing just two hits, but also conceding four walks and two hit-batters with two strikeouts.
UWA scored all the runs it would need in the 4
th and 5
th innings off a passed ball and a wild pitch before scoring again in the 6
th and 7
th frames off the more conventional means of a run-scoring single and an RBI-double.
Conner Ingram (0-3) took the complete-game loss for SHC in the nightcap lasting six innings and surrendering three hits with six walks and three strikeouts. Javian Stone (1-0) was the winner for UWA in 4.1 innings with just one hit, five walks, and six strikeouts while Mason Hollander finished the final 2.2 innings for his first save of the year with one hit, one walk and seven strikeouts.
UWA took an early 2-0 lead with a run in the 1
st inning following an infield error by the Badgers that allowed a runner to score from 2
nd base and a balk with a man on 3
rd base in the 2
nd inning. SHC answered back in the 5
th inning when second baseman
Frankie Timphony crossed the plate from 3
rd base courtesy of a 2-out fielding error by the Tigers.
The Badgers (10-10) and the Tigers now shift the series to the SHC campus on Sunday for a non-conference doubleheader at historic Stan Galle Field beginning at 2 p.m.
