MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team closed out a four-game non-series versus rival the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers on Sunday with a doubleheader split of results on Sunday afternoon at historic Stan Galle Field, winning the first game 2-0 before falling 10-2 in the nightcap.
Badger starter
AJ Fell held the Tigers (9-11) hitless through 6.2 innings before a solid single to shallow center ended his no-hit bid. He would still finish the day with a complete-game shutout and allowing just two hits and a walk to go with nine strikeouts.
Right fielder
Cade Simpson provided the offensive heroics in the opening game as he drove a bases-loaded single to center that brought in third baseman
Reis Trager and 1
st baseman
Mason Bonnaffons.
Colin Chamblin fell to 0-3 for UWA lasting 6.2 solid innings with six hits, no walks and six strikeouts before yielding to Kolby Crowley who finished the final 1.1 innings with no hits, walks or strikeouts.
Game 2 saw the Tigers pound out 11 hits including 2-run home runs in the 2
nd and 3
rd innings in route to a 10-2 victory. Starter
Logan Clark (1-2) took the loss for SHC in four innings with six hits, two walks and one strikeout.
Connor Brooks (1-1) nabbed the win in 3.2 relief innings allowing no hits and no walks with nine strikeouts, including the baseball rarity of a four-strikeout frame in the bottom of the 6
th inning.
The Badgers (11-11, 0-0 SIAC West) will open Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play with a 3-game inter-divisional series this weekend at the Albany State University (ASU) Golden Rams (8-8, 0-0 SIAC East) beginning with a single game starting at 5 p.m. (eastern) in Albany, Ga. at Golden Rams Field at West Campus.
