Badgers trip Loyola 6-4 in 10 innings

WESTWEGO, La. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team fought to a 6-4 non-conference road game versus Jesuit rival the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack in 10 innings at Segnette Field on Tuesday night.

The Wolf Pack (16-7) tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning with a run-scoring triple by Alexander Dennis, but the Badgers would load the bases in the 10th inning with New Orleans native freshman left fielder Cade Simpson at the plate. Simpson put the Badgers up 6-4 off a two-run single left-center field bringing in shortstop Antonio Felix and 3rd baseman Reis Trager.

Seven Badger pitchers combined for the victory with Michael Romano (2-1) picking up the win in 2.2 innings of relief allowing just one hit, three walks (two intentional), and two strikeouts.

At the plate, SHC racked up 12 hits led by centerfielder Joseph Guidry with three hits and a 6th-inning solo home run, Trager with three hits, and Simpson with two safeties.

The Badgers (10-8) will travel to Livingston, Ala., on Saturday to face the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers (6-10) in a non-conference doubleheader at Tartt Field beginning at 2 p.m.
