Badgers hand Rams 8-5 loss at The Hank

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team mashed its way to an 8-5 victory over the University of Mobile Rams in a non-conference contest at Hank Aaron Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Rams (11-3) took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning, but the Badger offense took over from there, bashing 11 hits on the night. The hit parade was highlighted by two Hank Aaron style moon shots launched by 2nd baseman Frankie Timphony in the 4th inning to stake SHC to a 5-3 lead and a 2-run laser down the right field line by 1st baseman Mason Bonnaffons in the 5th inning.

By design, SHC used seven pitchers in the game with only starter Michael Novak and closer Michael Romano going two innings each. Novak allowed three hits with two walks and a strikeout while Geo Camfield (1-0) picked up the win in one inning of relief, allowing just one hit. Romano pocketed his first save of the year by giving up no hits or walks and striking out one batter.

Caleb Coffey (3-1) of Mobile took the loss in 4.2 innings of starting work and surrendered seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

At the plate, Timphony closed the event with a 3-for-4 performance as Bonnaffons, right fielder Grayson Williams, and 3rd baseman Reis Trager each collected two hits. Left fielder Cade Simpson also put a double into left field in the 8th inning.

The Badgers (5-6) will host non-conference opponent the University of Missouri-St. Louis Tritons (2-1) on Friday at 5 p.m. on historic Stan Galle Field.
